Parallel to the group-show „Textile Languages“ the Museum Villa Rot shows a one-artist-show with works by Anca Munteanu Rimnic, who was born in Bucarest in 1974 and today lives in Berlin. In her multifaceted, multimedia work the artist explores the possibilities of visual forms dealing with such complex topics as the loss of the indigenous and identity. Due to her biography, which is strongly marked by her family’s flight from Romania to Germany when she was six years old, fragmented memories of her home country frequently appear in her work. Munteanu Rimnic uses these moments of loss and transforms them into poetic, sometimes absurd videos, sculptures and installations. In this context she also uses traditional crafting techniques, i.e. Romanian kilims, which she transfers into new contexts and by doing so inscribes them with new meaning. Recurring topics in her works are aspects of absence, instability and discontinuity, which are not only of a personal interest for the artist, but also speak of general human conditions.

The artist had solo-shows a.o. at Mönchehaus Museum, Goslar, and Kunstverein Braunschweig (both 2015) and took part in group shows, a.o. at the 4th Moscow Biennale (2011) and Kunsthalle Vienna (2014). The exhibition at Museum Villa Rot is her first solo exhibition in the South of Germany.
